The Pearls and Perils of the Metaverse in Medicine

Stage 02
September 23, 2023 | 10:45 AM (PST) - 11:45 AM (PST)

Some advocated for naming 2022 as the Year of the Metaverse in Medicine. This relatively new concept is expected to contribute to improving healthcare delivery in relation to diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases by applying VR and AR technologies through which clinicians and patients use digital avatars for face-to-face communication in the virtual world. VR and AR result in three-dimensional interface for display and interaction allowing the users to become immersed in a virtual universe of information. Despite the excitement around the Metaverse in Medicine, there are prevalent misconceptions about what it is and what it is not. This session will cover how clinicians and patients can use ‘the MediVerse’ most effectively, efficiently and safely.
