About Leonard Ganz, MD

Leonard Ganz M.D. joined Abbott in March 2022 as Divisional Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer of Cardiac Rhythm Management. Prior to this, he had a distinguished career in clinical cardiac electrophysiology, practicing in academic, private practice, and community hospital settings.
Dr. Ganz trained in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Cardiac Electrophysiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He is board certified (ABIM) in Cardiovascular Diseases and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. Additionally, he completed the Program in Clinical Effectiveness at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

After completing his training, Dr. Ganz was an attending physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Allegheny General Hospital. Following that, he was Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). While there, he completed the Program for Physician Leaders and Executives, which is co-administered by UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh Katz School of Business.

Dr. Ganz has served as a Trustee, Officer, and Chair of the Education Committee at the Heart Rhythm Society. He has published and lectured extensively, most recently on medical device cybersecurity. Dr. Ganz is also a prolific author and section editor for topics relating to device and arrhythmia therapy in UpToDate, and has written chapters on electrocardiography for multiple editions of the Goldman-Cecil Medicine textbook.
