There has been a significant increase in the volume of data produced by patients with the litany of wearables on the market. The ability to share data between patients and providers has become easier with the advent of patient portals associated with electronic medical records. But the core question of data ownership remains—who owns these data? Data ownership is complex and important for patient empowerment. But what does the law say? Can data be co-owned by the appropriate entities involved in a patient’s care? What are the legal nuances of data ownership? And are the cybersecurity measures in place sufficient in the current state? In this session, we will start to address some of these concepts.
