As Chief of the Division of Cardiology at New York Presbyterian Queens and Assistant Professor of Medicine with an appointment in Population Health at Weill Cornell Medicine, Dr. David Slotwiner has devoted his career to patient care, mentoring trainees and addressing challenges in every day clinical medicine by pursuing health policy and technological solutions.
Since 2005 he has helped lead a multi-stakeholder collaboration to develop a standard lexicon of data elements for managing data generated by implantable pacemakers and defibrillators. Under the auspices of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society, all manufacturers of these devices have collaborated to create this lexicon which has been balloted and approved by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the standards development organization governing data from electrocardiograms and implantable cardiac rhythm management devices.
As a member of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Cardiovascular Advisory Panel, he has had the opportunity to advise the Agency on numerous novel devices as well as develop new strategies to conduct post-approval surveillance of these devices. He has participated in authoring several practice guidelines and expert consensus statements on topics including management of atrial fibrillation, management of patients with ventricular arrhythmias, remote monitoring of implantable pacemakers and defibrillators, and indications for physiologic pacing using newer techniques such as His-bundle pacing and cardiac resynchronization therapy.
Recently he served on the Board of Trustees of the Heart Rhythm Society, and he is a Section Editor of the Heart Rhythm Society’s new Cardiovascular Digital Health Journal.
