About George Stuart Mendenhall, MD

Chief Medical Officer for Grektek, maker of the Everbeat arrhythmic monitor and cardiac platform.

G. Stuart Mendenhall, MD, is an expert in clinical cardiac electrophysiology. Dr. Mendenhall specializes in implanted device management, including pacemakers, defibrillators and other cardiac monitors, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. At Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, Dr. Mendenhall has access to state-of-the art equipment for complex procedures such as atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) and ventricular tachycardia ablations, including the use of the cryoballoon and excimer laser for lead (pacemaker or defibrillator wires) extractions.

In his clinical practice, Dr. Mendenhall works closely with his patients to ensure they make the most informed clinical decisions possible. He strongly believes in personalized medicine, with close attention to each patient’s values. He performs all procedures with expert precision and attention to safety.

As a researcher, Dr. Mendenhall is focused on making cardiac devices “”smarter,”” and has numerous published articles on device management, analysis of device signals and the advanced detection of cardiac conditions from both minimally invasive and non-invasive (worn on body) techniques, which he sees as integral to the future of medicine.

Dr. Mendenhall has been practicing cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology since 2011. He is a fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society and American College of Cardiology. He is a member of multiple national advisory committees and working groups, including the Heart Rhythm Society’s digital strategy and health policy committees.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Mendenhall is an accomplished private pilot. For 4 years, when he was based in Pittsburgh, he would fly every week to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to provide care at an underserved outreach clinic. He is an avid classical musician and pianist and performs chamber music locally. He enjoys skiing, bicycling and is learning to surf in La Jolla.
