About Steven Zweibel

Dr. Steven L. Zweibel is the Medical Director of Innovation at the Hartford HealthCare Heart & Vascular Institute and an Attending Cardiac Electrophysiologist. He holds an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management, where he also earned a Business Analytics Certificate.

Dr. Zweibel’s commitment to advancing cardiac care through innovation and technology continues to drive his research and clinical practice. His expertise in cardiac electrophysiology is complemented by his work in artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics. He is currently collaborating with MIT on projects, including the development of AI-enabled multi-class diagnosis of left ventricular ejection fraction from electrocardiograms and a prescriptive model for patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) to reduce pacemaker implantation rates secondary to iatrogenic heart block.

Other research has explored the use of a smart app for remote monitoring of pacemakers and stroke risk as a function of atrial fibrillation duration and CHA2DS2-VASc score to inform anticoagulation decisions in patients with device-detected atrial fibrillation. Dr. Zweibel’s scientific work has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Heart Rhythm Journal, Circulation, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Throughout his career, Dr. Zweibel has held several key positions, including System Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology for Hartford HealthCare. He is currently the Director of the Cardiac Device Management Program at Hartford Hospital.
