About Tom De Potter

Dr. Tom De Potter trained as a cardiologist in Belgium until 2007, and as an electrophysiologist in Barcelona and Hamburg until 2009.

Since 2009, he joined the Cardiovascular Center Aalst, Belgium where he currently serves as the head of the EP deparment and the head of R&D for the cardiology department. His research interests are translational/early stage ablation technologies, sudden death risk stratification, structural interventions for stroke prevention, cardioneuromodulation, multimodality imaging to support the above procedures and machine learning approaches to analyse imagaing and automate workflows.

He is an active investigator in several multinational randomized clinical trials in the field of ablation for atrial fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia, and has performed the world’s first human RF ablation using very high power energy (90 W ablation), the first ultralow temperature cryoablation for both AF and VT as well as the world’s first human pulmonary vein isolation with the J&J platform for pulsed field ablation.
