Eugene Chung

Eugene H. Chung, MD, MSc, MPH, FHRS is Director of the Sports Electrophysiology Clinic within the Cardiovascular Performance Program at Massachusetts General Hospital and a faculty member at Harvard Medical School. An internationally recognized cardiac electrophysiologist and sports cardiologist, he specializes in catheter ablation, cardiac implantable electronic devices, ventricular arrhythmias, and the cardiovascular care of competitive athletes and highly active individuals.

Dr. Chung earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, a Master of Science from the University of Edinburgh, and his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University before completing his residency in internal medicine and fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and clinical cardiac electrophysiology at Lahey Clinic. Prior to joining Massachusetts General Hospital, he held leadership positions at the University of North Carolina and Michigan Medicine, where he established and expanded electrophysiology and sports cardiology programs.

A respected clinician, researcher, and educator, Dr. Chung’s research focuses on arrhythmias in athletes, sports cardiology, ECG screening, and the prevention of sudden cardiac death. He has served in numerous national leadership roles, including Chair of the American College of Cardiology Sports and Exercise Cardiology Leadership Council and Vice-Chair of the Heart Rhythm Society’s consensus statement on arrhythmias in athletes. He is a frequent invited speaker and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications advancing the fields of sports cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology.
