Cardiac Electrophysiologist

Joshua Silverstein, MD, FHRS

I’m a cardiac electrophysiologist and EP Lab Director with a career focused on three intersecting priorities: delivering excellent patient care, advancing the science of cardiac electrophysiology, and transforming how EP practices operate at scale.

Clinically, I specialize in catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation and complex arrhythmias, cardiac implantable electronic devices, and the full spectrum of electrophysiology. I currently direct the EP Lab at Allegheny General Hospital and hold an academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine.

At the national level, I serve as Vice Chair of the Heart Rhythm Society’s Quality Improvement Committee, where I help shape EP quality strategy across the country. I also co-lead CardiQ.org, HRS’s national quality improvement platform — an initiative I helped build from the ground up to create measurable, lasting improvements in how EP care is delivered.

One of the areas I’m most passionate about is practice transformation. I’ve personally trained hundreds of electrophysiologists, fellows, nurses, technologists, and administrators across academic medical centers and community practices — coaching teams on EP lab efficiency, staffing models, safety, and data-driven quality improvement. This hands-on work is at the intersection of operations, education, and outcomes, and I find it among the most rewarding of my professional activities.

My research has been published in leading journals including Heart Rhythm, JACC Clinical Electrophysiology, and the Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology. I’ve been fortunate to contribute to multicenter registries, consensus statements, and randomized studies that are reshaping how AF ablation is performed worldwide. I’m also a frequent invited speaker at national and international meetings — most recently presenting at Heart Rhythm 2026 on the growing disconnect between EP physician workload and RVU-based compensation.
