About Ritu Thamman, MD

Dr. Thamman is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE). She was the inaugural chair of the ASE’s Twitter Journal Club and co-chair of the Industry Round Table, a think tank for echocardiography and innovation. She is the founder and chair of ASE’s Women in Echo. She is on the AHA’s Telehealth Writing Committee after serving as ACC’s Co-chair for telehealth standards for consumer devices and applications designed to improve cardiovascular health. She served on the ACC’s Women in Cardiology Leadership Council and founded the ACC’s PA chapter of Women in Cardiology.

Her research focuses on mitral valve prolapse, mitral annular disjunction and innovative implementation tools for cardiovascular disease. Dr. Thamman is the Social Media Editor for Circulation Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes and the Journal of American Society of Echocardiography. Her writing and interpretation of scientific articles has led to her being a prominent social media figure for advocacy and education.
