James Freeman

James V. Freeman, MD, MPH, MSci is Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology for Yale New Haven Health, and Director of the Yale Atrial Fibrillation Program. He is an internationally recognized cardiac electrophysiologist specializing in the treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, ventricular tachycardia, and supraventricular tachycardias. His clinical expertise also includes left atrial appendage occlusion and the management of implantable cardiac devices, including pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).

Dr. Freeman earned his medical degree and Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University before completing his residency and fellowships at Stanford University. He also earned a Master of Science in Health Services Research from Stanford, providing a strong foundation in clinical outcomes research, comparative effectiveness, and health economics.

An internationally respected clinician-scientist, Dr. Freeman has published extensively on the safety, effectiveness, and value of therapies for cardiac arrhythmias, stroke prevention, heart failure, and sudden cardiac death. His research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the American College of Cardiology, and the American Heart Association, and he is widely recognized for advancing evidence-based care in cardiac electrophysiology. A frequent invited speaker at national and international scientific meetings, Dr. Freeman is committed to improving patient outcomes through clinical innovation, research, and physician education.
