Jim Cheung

Jim W. Cheung, MD, FHRS, is the William S. Paley Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, where he serves as Associate Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology, Director of Clinical Electrophysiology Research, and Director of the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship Program. He is also an attending physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Dr. Cheung is an internationally recognized cardiac electrophysiologist specializing in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders. His clinical expertise includes atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmia ablation, pulsed field ablation, left atrial appendage occlusion, cardiac device implantation, conduction system pacing, cardiac resynchronization therapy, and the management of inherited arrhythmic disorders.

His research focuses on innovative ablation technologies and techniques, novel cardiac devices, real-world outcomes of arrhythmia therapies, genetic and metabolic factors associated with arrhythmias, and robotic magnetic navigation-guided ablation. He leads clinical electrophysiology research at Weill Cornell and has authored more than 200 scientific papers and book chapters.

Dr. Cheung earned his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Harvard University and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his internal medicine training at Massachusetts General Hospital and fellowship training in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society and has held leadership roles within national electrophysiology organizations.
