About Mark Breyen, MBA

Mark Breyen is a medical technology and research and development leader with more than three decades of experience advancing healthcare innovation. He currently serves as Vice President of Research and Development at Philips, where he leads R&D for the company’s Image-Guided Therapy Devices business, supporting the development of interventional technologies that integrate imaging, navigation, and medical device solutions to improve care for patients and clinicians.

Prior to joining Philips, Breyen spent more than 30 years at Medtronic, holding a variety of senior scientific, engineering, and R&D leadership positions, including Vice President of Research and Technology. His career has spanned medical device research, technology development, materials science, product development, and global R&D leadership.

In addition to his industry leadership, Breyen serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, contributing his extensive medtech experience to the academic community. He is also a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), recognized for his contributions to medical device materials science, technical leadership, and STEM education.

Breyen earned his MBA from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management and has built his career at the intersection of engineering, research, business strategy, and healthcare innovation.
