About Mark Stewart, BSME
Mark Stewart is a Senior Distinguished Scientist and Bakken Fellow at Medtronic whose research served as a pioneering foundation for what is now called pulsed field ablation (PFA). For almost two decades, Mark analyzed how this alternative energy source might be applied for arrhythmia management for Medtronic. His work began with preclinical research and extensive publication on feasibility, safety, and basic mechanisms of how electric fields affect tissue and progressed to the commercial launch of PulseSelect™, the first PFA technology approved in the U.S. in 2023. In 2018, Mark first coined the term “pulsed field ablation” (in a Heart Rhythm publication) that is now used to describe the innovation that is transforming cardiac arrhythmia treatment around the world. He is an inventor on over 110 issued U.S. patents and continues to explore potential applications of PFA technology.
