About Jeffrey Healey, MD, FHRS

Jeffrey S. Healey, MD, FHRS, is a cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist, Professor of Medicine at McMaster University, and Senior Scientist at the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI) in Hamilton, Canada. He serves as the Yusuf Chair and Director of Cardiology at McMaster University.

Dr. Healey is an internationally recognized researcher in atrial fibrillation, cardiac arrhythmias, and stroke prevention. He was the lead author of the landmark ASSERT trial, which demonstrated the association between subclinical atrial fibrillation and increased stroke risk, and served as principal investigator of the ARTESIA trial, which evaluated anticoagulation with apixaban for stroke prevention in patients with device-detected subclinical atrial fibrillation.

He currently leads the LAAOS-4 trial, an international study evaluating left atrial appendage occlusion in addition to oral anticoagulation for stroke prevention in high-risk patients with atrial fibrillation. Dr. Healey also chairs the Canadian Stroke Prevention and Intervention Network, previously chaired the Canadian Atrial Fibrillation Guidelines Committee, and serves on the steering committee of AF-SCREEN International Collaboration.

His research has helped advance the detection and management of atrial fibrillation and strategies to reduce stroke and other complications associated with cardiac arrhythmias.
