About Kamala P. Tamirisa, MD, FHRS

Kamala Tamirisa, MD, FHRS, is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she serves as Director of Electrophysiology Research. She completed fellowships in cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, and cardiac MRI at the University of Michigan Medical Center.

Dr. Tamirisa is a cardiac electrophysiologist specializing in advanced device therapy, maternal arrhythmias, and complex electrophysiology care. Her clinical expertise includes arrhythmias in pregnancy, subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, challenging venous access and venoplasty for device implantation, conduction system pacing, cardiac resynchronization therapy, cardiac contractility modulation, atrial fibrillation, and supraventricular tachycardia.

Her research focuses on arrhythmias in pregnancy, device-based electrophysiology care, access barriers to advanced EP therapies, health care disparities, and workforce gaps in cardiovascular medicine and electrophysiology. She is actively involved in clinical research, education, mentorship, and systems-level initiatives aimed at improving equitable delivery of advanced cardiac electrophysiology care.

Dr. Tamirisa serves on the HRS Board of Trustees and is active in national electrophysiology leadership, advocacy, and women-in-cardiology and electrophysiology initiatives. She serves on several journal editorial boards and is a reviewer for major cardiovascular and electrophysiology journals. She is also co-author of Prevention of Burnout in Medicine and an executive leadership coach focused on professional development, resilience, ethical leadership, confident communication, and organizational management in health care.
